“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
The Victoria State Rose Garden Werribee, Victoria – Australia proved to be a lovely photography adventure for hubby and I. Not far from where we live, and not too difficult to get around – with lots of beautiful blooming roses to view with they delightful scent to appreciate. It took two different visits to capture this selection of photographs. The first time we came a number of weeks before the opening show, and the second time, on the actual weekend opening, where we found most of the roses in full bloom! The Rose Garden has been in existence for 25 years. During that time it has been awarded the ‘Garden of Excellence’ which is easy to see why when strolling through its maze of rose garden beds. There are more than 5000 roses in the garden and approximately 600 rose varieties. Upon our departure and just outside the rose garden, we also spotted Masked Lapwing birds also known as Spur-winged Plovers stalking across green lawns, looking for embedded insects; and Red Wattle-birds high up in beautiful Silky Oak trees feeding on its bright yellow/orange flowers.
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens for the landscape photographs – hand-held and fixed to gimbal. For the bird photography I used the same camera but with my new (bird) lens, a Sigma150-600mm F5-6.3 DGOS HSM with a Sigma Mount Converter MC-11 mounted on a Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with quick release base. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
CONCLUSION
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits – really does rejuvenate the body and soul. Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!

Ours are quite modest, because we live in the north:

This place looks like heaven. I’m particularly taken by the close ups, especially the one yellow one about midway. Also that little strutting bird! I especially enjoy seeing the warmth and color you capture. Here we are entering winter and have already had snow. Raking leaves in sub freezing temps! Your pictures are a vacation for me.

Hi Claudia, thank you and it is hard to imagine snow as we are now experiencing our summer temperatures. Yesterday was 37 Celsius which is hot for us so keeping cool is top priority. Bush fires are our problem at this time of the year especially when the north winds hit the region…warm regards Karen

Hi Claudia…even though it is summer here, the weather can be fickle! One day it can be mild summer temperatures and the next scorching – so it they keep that in mind – all good…warm regards Karen

Good to hear…where are they going to be travelling too?

First to Vienna, then to Sydney, then Melbourne area, including the city itself, Tasmania, and a couple of other places that I have forgotten. On the way home I am not sure where they are stopping, to break the journey. They were in Australia 2 years ago but mostly Sydney and north, I believe.

It is so good to hear they are taking time out to visit Victoria and Melbourne – lots to see and do. Tasmania is truly beautiful and hopefully they have planned to visit its west coast as well as the east coast…hope they really enjoy their time in Australia…warm regards Karen

I am sure they will love it. They are returning because the trip 2 years ago was so good, and they wanted to see more, despite the distance and the expense. They are really looking forward to it.
