INTRODUCTION
Taking into account that hubby and I will need to put on hold any photography adventures that involve travel for some time during this year 2020, I have decided to blog about the black and white/monochrome photographs I have taken and amassed over recent years during our past photography adventures. They consist of many and varying subject matters from landscapes, garden, seascapes, city/streetscapes, abstraction, animals and birds, and people! All photographs have been taken within the State of Victoria Australia. Details relating to each photograph above and below can be found by just hovering over the image where a small window will appear with relevant details about that specific image.
It is interesting when deciding to make a photograph into a black and white image – how it changes its story, focus and mood! While I am a great lover of colour, there are times when I find myself really enjoying developing an image as a black and white. Seeing how by taking away colour and introducing varying shades of black and white can transform an image into a completely different creative outcome! Over time, this process has had me actually anticipating when a scene would work best in black and white rather than colour. This approach has meant I have been able to do better at getting what I creatively want rather than just waiting to make the decision to do black and white during the development progress!
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During these photography adventures – I have used my compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens or a Sigma150-600mm F5-6.3 DGOS HSM with a Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. Also would have used my Right Angle L Plate Bracket for my camera so that I could turn it to do portraits or landscape photographs more easily which has worked a treat. I use a BH-40 Ballhead for my tripod which helps make taking my photographs not just easier but much more enjoyable. During these photography adventures, I use an Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and to ensure I gain GPS location readings.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, my usual practice is to download all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic. I develop just the photographs I feel are the best and/or should be included because they help tell the story about that particular photography adventure. During the process of developing them, I am able to see what I need to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find here above and below all the black and white/monochrome photographs I have taken over the years and amassed here for you to view.

Comments: Yarra Glen Region, Victoria – Australia September 2018. The last day in September, a beautiful spring day, hubby and I decided to take a drive through the Yarra Glen Region. At this time of the year the valleys and hillsides are lush green. Vineyards feature widely throughout the region alongside of pastures where cattle happily grazed under the warm sunshine. Grey clouds gathered up along the mountains ranges as the day drifted towards its end. A beautiful spring day we so much enjoyed – a good to be alive day! CONCLUSION
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits – really does rejuvenate the body and soul. While during early 2020 we will be limited to how much we will be able to get out-and-about, I will endeavour to find other ways to undertake photographic creativity from within our home environment – hopefully!
Happy photography all – © Karen Robinson – March 2020
