Exhibitions have taught me, that art can be a very powerful way to engage with others; a way to captivate an audience’s attention and convey a story about my innermost personal thoughts and emotions. For myself especially – exhibitions are about being able to communicate a soulful message, to highlight important issues; and to give the viewer something to mull over, well after viewing the artwork. Hence exhibiting selected pieces of my Abstract Art Portfolio, has been an important part of my art therapy journey.

(1) “Ways Out – Journey through Recovery”
Synergy Gallery Exhibition 2009 Painting No. 23 – Title “Related Families” Jun/Jul/Aug 2008 Acrylic on Canvas 152cms Length x 102cms Wide x 3ms Deep Painting Story: We had just come out of having a mid-year Xmas gathering. When thinking about our families I was inspired by the unity of our families. During my husband’s cancer treatment this was proven to be just as true! Comforted by the families support and with the knowledge that when it really counts, they will be there for us. Abstract Artist: Karen Robinson NB: All images are protected by copyright laws!
Synergy Gallery Exhibition 2009 Painting No. 26A – Title “Green Peace & Human Nature” Sept/Oct 2008 Acrylic on Canvas 81cms Length x 151cms Wide x 3cms Deep Painting Story: This two part painting is about the impact we have on our earth. How the health of our planet is all in our control. How the choices we make on marking its surfaces; and using its resources holds an incredible responsibility. How there is many parts of our planet suffering from our human intervention. And how there are other parts which are sustaining great beauty. My mother said to me once “Life is like a path of snow, be careful how you tread it, for every mark will show”. My painting shows our human marks and the question…are our marks benefiting our earth or making it sick? Hope is expressed in these paintings via the use of bright colours…and in our youth of the future! Abstract Artist: Karen Robinson NB: All images are protected by copyright laws!

CONCLUSION:
The process of painting, painting story writing and digital photo painting has offered me a way of expressing thoughts and emotions which can be difficult to say out loud. I also came to understand that art can be a very powerful way of communicating with others. Therapy via art – gave me a voice…
My art therapy journey has been an important part of recent years and still will be an important part in years to come. I am hoping that sharing my art therapy journey, will inspire others, to take up art therapy to find their voice – in order to be able to move forward in the most difficult of times. Art Therapy has brought me now to a much better place where I find myself being able to seek joy each day. As an ongoing process, I will be blogging about my art therapy journey “moving forward” and expand on how others have used/are using art therapy to assist physical and emotional well-being. I hope you will join me!
