Miners Rest, Victoria – Australia ‘Full Flight Birds of Prey’ Photographed by Karen Robinson April 2018 – Brown Goshawk
INTRODUCTION
Another photography adventure day with the Craigieburn Camera Club! Hubby and I with other club members, got to visit and photograph, amazing ‘Australian raptors and owl bird flight displays’ at the Full Flight Birds of Prey Centre – which is located within Miners Rest, Victoria – Australia. The centre’s staff are “dedicated to the protection and conservation of native raptors through public education, breeding and research”. It was a glorious autumn day which meant we were able to truly enjoy our time photographing these beautiful creatures. On our way back home, my hubby and I stopped at one of the small country town cafes for a light lunch and coffee. A good day was had by all…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
This type of photography was certainly a challenge for me but after doing some research on suitable camera settings, I was able to take some photographs that I was happy with and that also help tell a story.
During this bird photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lense. For all of the shots, I hand-held my camera, ensuring I had the image stabilisation turned on. The camera settings I decided to use were as following: Manual Mode: 1/1000 sec shutter speed at f/7.1; set auto ISO; continuous auto focus; and selected centre point. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
