INTRODUCTION

Another photography adventure day with the Craigieburn Camera Club!  Hubby and I with other club members went about fulfilling the required photography task which was to find a composition to photograph that was inclusive of the following: music, reflections, people, angles and movement.  Federation Square, Melbourne – Australia was the Club’s choice of locations. Due to the fact it was a weekend and lots of community events where underway while we were there – it wasn’t hard to find things to photograph, but being creative demanded extra attention from us as photographers.  It was also hot which made it even more challenging!  But our afternoon finished up with us all joining up together to have dinner at one of Federation Square’s Cafes.  Here we got to cool down with a much-needed cold drink, exchange stories about our experiences during the afternoon and just enjoy each others company.  It was a great way to end the day…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens. I handheld the camera or mounted it on a Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with quick release base. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing then I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

INTRODUCTION

At 6am on April 25th 2018, hubby and I attended the ‘ANZAC Dawn Service’ at Craigieburn ANZAC Park, Victoria – Australia.  For the last three years Craigieburn Camera Club members have assisted by taking photos which are donated to the RSL to share with the community. Many local community members were there alongside of those who had/have families gave/give their service to their country – Lest we forget. It was a moving service, and a privilege to be able to contribute in some way by taking photographs.  Please find here below some of the best I took that morning.

I found this poem on the Australian Memorial Website.  It was written by an eleven year-old boy…

Lest we forget

“The time has come” an Australian said,
“Bye” as he faced the door and ran ahead.
The war has started the battle begun,
Smack,boom,crash went the lethal gun.
Oww, the pain, other soldiers cried,
Most of their friends sadly died.
All the solders tried to laugh in glee,
But they all missed their family.
Every battle the bugle sang,
The soldiers heard the deafening bang.
Soon the battle is going to end,
The pain inside will never mend.
How they wished to be back home,
Safe and snug and not alone,
More and more people die,
As more soldiers painfully cry.
When it’s the end of war,
They knock happily at their door,

Soldiers go to Flanders field,
With the poppies they wield,
People look at the poppies red,
Like their blood on the graveyards head,
We remember the soldiers, who fought and died.
And all their mates fighting by their side.
We thank the soldiers who kept us alive,
And the times in war they had to survive,
We will always remember the men,
Who gave their life to defend.

Lest we forget.

INTRODUCTION

Another photography adventure day with the Craigieburn Camera Club!  Hubby and I with other club members, got to visit and photograph, amazing ‘Australian raptors and owl bird flight displays’ at the Full Flight Birds of Prey Centre – which is located within Miners Rest, Victoria – Australia.  The centre’s staff are “dedicated to the protection and conservation of native raptors through public education, breeding and research”.  It was a glorious autumn day which meant we were able to truly enjoy our time photographing these beautiful creatures. On our way back home, my hubby and I stopped at one of the small country town cafes for a light lunch and coffee.  A good day was had by all…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

This type of photography was certainly a challenge for me but after doing some research on suitable camera settings, I was able to take some photographs that I was happy with and that also help tell a story.

During this bird photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lense. For all of the shots, I hand-held my camera, ensuring I had the image stabilisation turned on. The camera settings I decided to use were as following:  Manual Mode: 1/1000 sec shutter speed at f/7.1; set auto ISO; continuous auto focus; and selected centre point.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

INTRODUCTION

Early one Sunday morning, and due to the weather forecast indicating the day to be perfect for photography, hubby and I decided to head into the Docklands Waterfront (Victoria – Australia). It is just a short car journey via the freeway towards the City of Melbourne for us and a short distance from where we live.  The Docklands Waterfront holds lots of memories for me, as it is where my sister used to live, and we spent many an hour at the local restaurants and coffee shops, enjoying each other’s company.  It’s an interesting area to photograph as it features many intriguingly designed building shapes, sizes, textures and colours; all set along side of the Yarra River Harbour water’s edge at Docklands.  Being early Sunday morning there were not many people out-and-about which made it easy to set up shots throughout our limited time there.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this cityscape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

MY FAVOURITE PHOTO OF THE DAY!

This photograph below is my favourite!  I managed to capture a young man walking along holding his skate-broad, heading towards the Coffee Van.  Just love the different shapes, textures, colours and angles of the Apartment Building and the way it stretches up into the sky above…

INTRODUCTION

Late one afternoon, hubby and I decided to head up towards the Mickleham region, Victoria – Australia which is just a little distance from where we live.  Wonderful sunsets can be viewed from surrounding farmlands here, and I wanted to take the opportunity to practise capturing sunsets during the ‘golden hour’ part of the day.  It was beautiful – fresh country air, no people, just silence and a landscape that stretched for miles!

INTRODUCTION

The decision I took to take up amateur photography more seriously, at the beginning of this year, has proven to be profound.  It has been an incredible creative endeavour which in turn, has had a positive influence on my sense of wellbeing.  The inclusion of my hubby’s company while I photographed various locations around the state of Victoria, Australia has been such a lovely way of spending time together. Learning to master my new camera and lens, and then learning the ins-and-outs of Lightroom 6 – has also been an enjoyable challenge.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During the latter part of 2017 – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For some of the shots, I used the camera hand-held, and for others, I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

After each photography adventure, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom 6.  From this point I selected only those images I felt worthy of development and below are my photographic favourites for 2017!
