INTRODUCTION

Another photograph pulled out of my 2018 Lightroom Catalogue archive!  An image that captured a dark and stormy day at the beautiful coastal ocean beach of Kilcunda, Victoria – Australia.  Far in the distance, you can spot two beach walkers with their dogs enjoying the isolation of this vast sandy beach scene.  The unusual lighting comes from the sun on the left of the image that had momentarily broken through the clouds, thus illuminating the sand and surf within the centre of the image.

I had developed this photograph previously, back in Feb 2018 but upon reviewing it just recently, I felt it I hadn’t done a good job.  Now, with a lot more experience as a photographer behind me, developing images within Lightroom Classic I decided it was worth giving it another go!  To my surprise and pleasure, I was able to improve the quality and mood of the image overall. and now feel it tells the story of the moment captured much better…

INTRODUCTION

Out of my Lightroom Catalogue archives once again! One day I will get back to photographing this beautiful part of Victoria, Australia, around the Lake Eildon region. This photograph was taken from the lakeside, near Bonnie Doon as the sun rose, on a cold July morning back in 2019. It was such a beautiful morning with not a soul to be seen or heard. The lake itself was relatively still, but it was the peculiar cloud formation that became the star of this image!

Camera Settings:

  • Exposure 1/90 sec at f/13
  • Focal Length 34mm
  • ISO 100
  • Camera Make Sony
  • Model ILCE-7M2
  • Lens FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3OSS

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this photography adventure – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens. Recently I had purchased a Right Angle L Plate Bracket for my camera so that I could turn it to do portraits or landscape photographs more easily which worked a treat.  I also purchased a BH-40 Ballhead for my tripod and once more, it made taking my photographs not just easier but much more enjoyable. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing then I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find here above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

INTRODUCTION

Another cold, wintery early morning start for this photography adventure!  We decided to visit another part of the Lake Eildon region, Victoria – Australia, that being Bonnie Doon. We drove to a part which was quite different from the other locations we have covered this winter being Devils River, Howqua Inlet and Jerusalem Creek.  There were views that extended out across the lake towards snow-covered Mount Buller way in the distance.  We were there for the sunrise where I was able to take some photographs of the sun rising over the distant mountains.  As the morning progressed, mystical clouds covered the region periodically which gave the surrounding region interesting lighting and photographic challenges for me.  Beautiful and peaceful Lake Eildon is and especially during winter when only the locals living in the area are out-and-about.  After taking photographs lakeside, we travelled up along Sunnerg Drive to the Skyline Road Lake Eildon Lookout where I was able to capture panoramic views of Lake Eildon. What a stunning view – then it was off back home, another fantastic day and photography adventure!
