INTRODUCTION

Below is a collection of some of my favourite flower/plant/leaf photographs I have taken over time when hubby I could travel freely about our State of Victoria, and also during Melbourne – Australia’s COVID-19 lockdown – where photography was restricted to our home environment.  Some were taken with my Sony long lens, some with my Sony Macro lens and others with my Mobile Phone.

CONCLUSION

Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and while at the same time be creative, and especially in times such as these during COVID-19 Lockdowns…

INTRODUCTION

This photography adventure had us heading back to the Mount Macedon Region, Victoria – Australia.  Being the last days of Autumn, I hoped to capture some images of trees displaying autumn coloured leaves.  Fortunately, we found Alton Road which offered a beautiful display of trees lining its course.  Here we stopped and I took the opportunity to spend some time photographing colourful Autumn leaves close up!  It was wonderful to get out-and-about again and experience this lovely region.

NO. 1 PHOTO CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph

  • Camera Make Sony
  • Model ILCE-7M2

The above image of beautiful golden-yellow autumn leaves appear like dancing ballerina’s balancing in mid air…

NO. 2 PHOTO CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph

  • Exposure 1/5 sec at f/8.0
  • Focal Length 49mm
  • ISO 80

  • Focal Length 29mm
  • ISO 80
  • Camera Make Sony
  • Model ILCE-7M2
  • Lens FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3OSS

A view from the road of spindly trees and a scattering of coloured autumn leaves created an interesting abstract image.  I decided to make this into a monochrome image because the backlighting help detail the trees well.

NO. 4 PHOTO CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph

  • Exposure 1/60 sec at f/5.6
  • Focal Length 80mm
  • ISO 80
  • Camera Make Sony
  • Model ILCE-7M2

The star of this image is the Autumn leaves as they held tight to their spindly dark stems.

NO. 5 PHOTO CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph

  • Exposure 0.4 sec at f/8.0
  • Focal Length 144 mm
  • ISO 80
  • Camera Make Sony
  • Model ILCE-7M2
  • Lens FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3OSS

Here I liked the contrast of the green gum leaves, the tree bark and the yellow-green Autumn leaves.

NO. 5 PHOTO CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph

  • Exposure 1/6 sec at f/5.6
  • Focal Length 52 mm
  • ISO 80

I loved how the colourful Autumn leaves appeared to cascade down towards the ground.

CONCLUSION

Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative. Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits is a real privilege for sure. It really does rejuvenate the body and soul.

INTRODUCTION

Well…we decided to head out into a rainy, cold autumn day for another photography adventure!  Mount Macedon became our choice of locations, as it was only an hour or so from where we lived, and therefore travelling time, down to a minimum.  It’s truly a beautiful part of the world, and especially at this time of the year!  Trees and gardens are bursting with rich colours of bright yellows, oranges, varying shades of green, burnt browns and lipstick reds.  Most of our time was spent dogging rain, as I took photographs where ever possible. And some photographs where actually taken from inside the car, peering out of the passenger side window, while my hubby tried to position the car, so I could get the best composition.  Everything was wet; the sky heavy with grey clouding and parts of the Mount Macedon area was shrouded in fine mist. This made it challenging to ensure I was able to come away with a creative amount of photography that I would be pleased with.  During our driving about, we decided to get out of the cold and rain, and lunch at the Historical Mount Macedon Hotel.  Here we enjoyed some hot food that helped recharge our batteries. While we eat, we sat beside a beautiful open fire-place to warm up, before heading back out to see what other photography treasures, we could find!  All in all, it was a good day – despite the rain and cold…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this garden photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For some these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer and for others I handheld.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

Some of the photographs I decided to develop minimally being the misty ones.  The truly autumn photographs I developed ensuring they maintained their colour bunch!  And some worked best as black and white photographs to help show off features better seen with a limited colour palette. NB:  Please click on each photograph to find the camera settings use

INTRODUCTION

The Craigieburn Camera Club ran a workshop on Macro photography with Bob Winers at the Living Legends Homestead, Greenvale, Victoria – Australia.  Not having a macro lens myself, I used what I had and took closeup photographs instead. There was a lovely small garden featured beside the homestead and this is where I put all my efforts into taking closeups of different varieties of flowers.  Afterwards my hubby and I enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee, and some freshly made scones at the homestead.  It was a beautiful day to be out-and-about in favourable autumn temperatures…a good “to be alive” day for sure!
