INTRODUCTION

A photography adventure to Mount Macedon, Victoria – Australia before the Autumn displays disappeared for another year was our next priority.  We encountered beautiful colourful gardens and streets featuring huge trees ladened with leaves ready to shed the last of their leaf coverage. We firstly visited the famous Honour Ave where Oak trees honours the 154 men and women of Macedon and Mount Macedon who enlisted during “The Great War” 1914-1918.  And then I found on Governors Road a property with a wonderful overgrown autumn boundary hedging display featuring a little gate and name plate titled ‘HADDON 26 – Governors Drive’.  Mount Macedon Road is the main road leading into the heart of the area where many beautiful gardens are on display for the general public to enjoy.  We discovered Devonshire Lane where I found a lush green and beautiful coloured vine draping over a fence.  My hubby found a lonely goat looking for company behind the hedge and spent some time there feeding and talking to the animal.  Our last stop on Taylors Road revealed an amazing display of Oak Trees!  Bright yellow, oranges, lush greens against grey ageing trunks made for some stunning images.  Our day in this region proved to be most fruitful photography wise and most enjoyable as well.

INTRODUCTION

It took two separate visits to the Forest Glade Gardens for hubby and me to view the entire 6 hectares of this well known beautiful private garden. At this time of the year, Autumn, the gardens have grandiose leaf displays of yellows, oranges, reds, pinks backdropped against lush green lawns. There was lots of walking involved, up and down stairs throughout its four distinct garden themes:  large English section with huge exotic trees and ornamental plants, the Japanese garden, rolling green lawns, and the cool, shady fern gully.  We also sighted many garden statues, fountains, pergolas and ponds throughout the gardens which gave us an opportunity to stop, catch our breath, take some photographs and just enjoy our surroundings.  On both photography adventure occasions we left feeling most tired but happy we took the time to visit these beautiful and unique gardens.

INTRODUCTION

Autumn time has arrived in our part of the world Victoria, Australia where deciduous trees lose their colourful display of leaves.  Therefore – time again for hubby and me to revisit the Mount Macedon region which is renowned for its beautiful gardens, especially at this time of the year. This photography adventure involved visiting Duneira Heritage Garden located not far from the Major Mitchell Lookout.  At the lookout, we experienced a stunning view that encompassed a rocky foreground, tall lanky gum trees saddled each side of the view leading down towards far distant farming properties. And completing this stunning picture, a pretty blue sky dotted with white fluffy clouds!  At Duneira Heritage Gardens we discovered 16 acres of garden that showcased “a staggering variety of exotic trees and shrubs”.  At the completion of our wanderings, we stopped for a coffee and seated ourselves on one of the wooden garden benches overlooking expanses of green lawn dwarfed by ancient trees.  Another photography adventure achieved and once more ticking the happy box

INTRODUCTION

The Victoria State Rose Garden Werribee, Victoria – Australia proved to be a lovely photography adventure for hubby and I.  Not far from where we live, and not too difficult to get around – with lots of beautiful blooming roses to view with they delightful scent to appreciate.  It took two different visits to capture this selection of photographs.  The first time we came a number of weeks before the opening show, and the second time, on the actual weekend opening, where we found most of the roses in full bloom!  The Rose Garden has been in existence for 25 years. During that time it has been awarded the ‘Garden of Excellence’ which is easy to see why when strolling through its maze of rose garden beds. There are more than 5000 roses in the garden and approximately 600 rose varieties. Upon our departure and just outside the rose garden, we also spotted Masked Lapwing birds also known as Spur-winged Plovers stalking across green lawns, looking for embedded insects; and Red Wattle-birds high up in beautiful Silky Oak trees feeding on its bright yellow/orange flowers.

INTRODUCTION

One grey cold autumn day in May this year, hubby and I travelled to Mount Macedon, Victoria – Australia for another photography adventure.  This region is best known for its19th century gardens and associated collection of extravagant large homes.  On this day, we just concentrated on the Gardens Of Tieve Tara – a truly beautiful and picturesque garden consisting of 7.5 acres of lush grounds, sweeping lawns, a whimsical playground, lakes, geese and fountains (Tieve Tara 2018).  As a hobbyist photographer, these gardens during autumn provided me with an incredible variety of opportunities to capture the magic of autumn; there was so much beautiful vibrant colour and variations of textures to enjoy!  We had a lovely time walking about and photographing these gardens, and will definitely be back in years to come to visit other wonderful gardens within the region of Mount Macedon.

INTRODUCTION

Well…we decided to head out into a rainy, cold autumn day for another photography adventure!  Mount Macedon became our choice of locations, as it was only an hour or so from where we lived, and therefore travelling time, down to a minimum.  It’s truly a beautiful part of the world, and especially at this time of the year!  Trees and gardens are bursting with rich colours of bright yellows, oranges, varying shades of green, burnt browns and lipstick reds.  Most of our time was spent dogging rain, as I took photographs where ever possible. And some photographs where actually taken from inside the car, peering out of the passenger side window, while my hubby tried to position the car, so I could get the best composition.  Everything was wet; the sky heavy with grey clouding and parts of the Mount Macedon area was shrouded in fine mist. This made it challenging to ensure I was able to come away with a creative amount of photography that I would be pleased with.  During our driving about, we decided to get out of the cold and rain, and lunch at the Historical Mount Macedon Hotel.  Here we enjoyed some hot food that helped recharge our batteries. While we eat, we sat beside a beautiful open fire-place to warm up, before heading back out to see what other photography treasures, we could find!  All in all, it was a good day – despite the rain and cold…

Some of the photographs I decided to develop minimally being the misty ones.  The truly autumn photographs I developed ensuring they maintained their colour bunch!  And some worked best as black and white photographs to help show off features better seen with a limited colour palette.
