INTRODUCTION

Recently a friend and I attended the La Trobe’s ‘Art Therapy Masterclass and Workshop Day‘ at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne – Australia.  The first of the public lectures covered: ‘The wellbeing effects of participating in art making – what the evidence tells us’ presented by Dr Patricia Fenner – art therapist, course coordinator, Master Art Therapy.  The second public lecture ‘Children and youth – building supportive self-care strategies using art’ was presented by Ms Vicky Nicholls – art therapist, psychotherapist, lecturer.  Meeting Vicky again brought back memories of the time I attended Mind Australia’s Art Therapy Group Sessions for Carers of loved ones with mental health issues where Vicky facilitated the art therapy group sessions.

ART THERAPY WORKSHOP

We got to participant in one of the workshops which explored issues such as ‘Who is an artist? Looking at the social currency around the term and identity, challenging the norms’.  This particular workshop was ran by Dr Libby Byrne – art therapist, artist, lecturer and researcher, Master Art Therapy.

Below here is a photograph of my efforts playing with the kinetic sand.  It was a fun and meaning-full way of being able to engage in storytelling, work through feelings and emotions in a safe, supportive environment.

Below here, beginning with a blank piece of paper and taking the time to create as we thought about the meaning of being an artist!

EXHIBITION ADJOINING LECTURE

Afterwards we took ourselves into see an exhibition adjoining the lecture centre featuring the work of Yayoi Kusama – most celebrated living Japanese artist and other amazing artists.

CONCLUSION

Art Therapy and Creative Writing Therapy really does work, and so important, as it helps people regain their sense of wellbeing, and helps support their loved ones as well.

INTRODUCTION

The Craigieburn Camera Club organised an outing to this event to give club members an opportunity to photograph an array of vehicles at Craigieburn Central, Victoria – Australia. Jess – the model came dressed in her best Rockabilly gear to pose for the club with the cars, bikes and trucks.  It was a challenge for me as I had not photographed at such an event before.  Trying to navigate around moving people and vehicles, posed some difficulty at times.  The day was very overcast which also presented another thing to consider!  But I was rewarded for my photography efforts I feel…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this miscellaneous photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all of the shots, I hand-held my camera.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and to gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing the photographs, I decided to ensure that the vehicles where the centre of attention within each photograph by darkening the background. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

CONCLUSION

Being out-and-about with my hubby, and the Craigieburn Camera Club gives me a chance to gain more experience photographing at different locations that I perhaps wouldn’t have considered beforehand. It helps broaden my photography skills and gives me an opportunity to enjoy the company of like-minded people.  Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!

Happy photography all!

INTRODUCTION

The decision I took to take up amateur photography more seriously, at the beginning of this year, has proven to be profound.  It has been an incredible creative endeavour which in turn, has had a positive influence on my sense of wellbeing.  The inclusion of my hubby’s company while I photographed various locations around the state of Victoria, Australia has been such a lovely way of spending time together. Learning to master my new camera and lens, and then learning the ins-and-outs of Lightroom 6 – has also been an enjoyable challenge.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During the latter part of 2017 – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For some of the shots, I used the camera hand-held, and for others, I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

After each photography adventure, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom 6.  From this point I selected only those images I felt worthy of development and below are my photographic favourites for 2017!
