We decided to revisit the areas of Harcourt and Elphinstone for this photography adventure. Another early morning start in order to be on location around sunrise. I found a couple of compositions that worked for me. One being at Elphinstone just as the sun rose over a far distance hillside, backlighting scraggy old leafless trees. The golden autumn sun helped to silhouette their limbs creating a striking image. In the foreground, a rippling pond appeared silver like in this beautiful early morning light. The photograph directly below was taken at Dog Rocks, Harcourt which is located within Mount Alexander National Park. I worked on two compositions, one portrait dimensions and developed as a colour image; and the other landscape dimensions developed as a black and white image. During the taking of both these photographs, soft side lighting from the sun allowed for great highlights, deep shadows thus overall good contrast. This was a short trip for us and I was happy with the photographs taken during the morning. Then back home to recover from the 4am early rise for us oldies. Just great to be able to get out-and-about once again!
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this photography adventure – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens. Recently I had purchased a Right Angle L Plate Bracket for my camera so that I could turn it to do portraits or landscape photographs more easily which worked a treat. I also purchased a BH-40 Ballhead for my tripod and once more, it made taking my photographs not just easier but much more enjoyable. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing then I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find here above, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits – really does rejuvenate the body and soul. Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!
