“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
Driving back home from Maldon some weeks ago, hubby and I stopped at Porcupine Flat Dredge and Dragline Historical Site, Victoria – Australia. It was once a flourishing area of the Maldon goldfields. Here we viewed two huge pieces of gold mining equipment – dredge and dragline. The dredge allowed for more large-scale gold mining than was used back in the 1850’s. In 1958 dredge operations were developed and then shut down in 1984 after moderate success. On this particular afternoon, the sun came out after a rainy morning and the natural filtered sunlight bathed the surrounding Australian bush in a golden warm light. It was perfect for taking photographs of these monster machines! I was also able to capture a beautiful reflection of the trees in the pond where one of these huge pieces of machinery lay decaying with rust, a ghostly reminder of years long gone…
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this landscape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
CONCLUSION
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world really does rejuvenate the body and soul. Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!
