INTRODUCTION

We decided to venture into the City of Melbourne, Australia, Chinatown on Little Bourke Street to do some street/documentary style photography.  I felt a need to mix it up a bit so as not to lose my enthusiasm for photography, and to also extend my portfolio.  The city of Melbourne is not far from home and makes for a short trip, not so exhausting as our landscape photography adventures.  Must be getting old! We started near the top of Little Bourke Street and worked our way towards the city centre, towards Chinatown’s arches.  This style of photography is very different from say landscape.  Requires an ability to not be self-conscious, to blend in with the environment, and not to make people feel uncomfortable.  Also requires some different photo-taking methods which I am still refining.  A good challenge, another learning curve and an enjoyable moment of time out-and-about!

Above Photography:  The above street photography image was taken at Chinatown’s arches where a woman walked cross in front of a red car.  A colourful view of Chinatown.

Above Photography:  The above street photography image was taken at Chinatown’s arches of two men on motorcycles.

Above Photography:  The above street photography image is taken from the same location, Chinatown’s arches just as a horse-drawn carriage and coachman came into view.

Above Photograph:  The street photography image was taken on Little Bourke Street of three women wearing glasses – they look like perhaps sisters.

Above Photograph:  These street photography images above taken on Little Bourke Street Chinatown and unusually quiet!

Above Photograph:  The street photography image above of a motorbike parked beside reflective columns.  I loved the mirrored effects of the buildings and person walking by.

Above Photograph:  The street photography image above is just about colour and on the left-hand side a mirror image can be seen.

Above Photographs:  The street photography image of two bikes parked in front of a shop window displaying floating red hearts – caught my eye!

CONCLUSION

Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative. Being out-and-about experiencing the wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits is a real privilege for sure. It really does rejuvenate the body and soul.
