INTRODUCTION

Late one afternoon, hubby and I decided to head up towards the Mickleham region, Victoria – Australia which is just a little distance from where we live.  Wonderful sunsets can be viewed from surrounding farmlands here, and I wanted to take the opportunity to practise capturing sunsets during the ‘golden hour’ part of the day.  It was beautiful – fresh country air, no people, just silence and a landscape that stretched for miles!

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this landscape photography  exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom 6.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

CONCLUSION

Being out and about experiencing the natural wonders of the world really does rejuvenate the body and soul.  Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!  It definitely works for me and once more we finished up our time in high spirits.  NB:  Please click here to visit my ‘Photography – About’ page where you will be able to find blog links and photographs about other photographic adventures…

INTRODUCTION

During October, on a day when the weather was just perfect, meaning the sun revealed itself most of the day, and shed a soft warmth down upon the Grand Ridge Road, Seaview Region, Victoria – Australia, we took a drive!  We only had a small window of time to explore this beautiful area. Our drive commenced at the Warragul end of Grand Ridge Road only, where we were able to view and photograph sweeping green fields featuring local dairy farms and observe farmers’ cattle and sheep quietly grazing.  It is the best time of the year to visit this area, it is stunningly green!  As summer approaches, when temperatures can reach into the high 30’s – low 40’s, the landscape turns brown and golden-yellow.  It is then – dry and hot but not on this day, this day was just beautiful…

During this landscape photography  exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lense. For some of the shots, I used the camera hand-held, and for others, I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  Each photography adventure helps me learn more about my camera and lense; and hopefully helps me becoming a better photographer. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

MY PICK OF THE DAY PHOTOGRAPH

There are a number of photographs I took on the day that are my favourite but I have picked this one as a standout.  I tried to remember the rules of composition thus having the tree stump in the foreground to the left, the trees set in the middle ground and in the distance, a range of mountains with the blue sky hanging over the whole scene.

CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY APPROACH

In future, I will be selecting some photos from each photography adventure and be a little more creative during the development within Adobe Lightroom 6.  Here is my first creative attempt!

Photography 2017 – Landscape: “Yan Yean Region” Written and Photographed by Karen Robinson

INTRODUCTION

One cold winter’s day my husband and I travelled by car along Ridge Road within the Yan Yean Region where I managed to capture rural landscape photographs featuring lambs resting under huge gum trees, cattle grazing on expansive grass fields and Purple Swamp-hens prodding the grass for food at the Yan Yean Reservoir Park.  We also sighted many Black Wattle trees which are prolific at this time of the year and found throughout the bush and in local residential gardens.  On this particular winter’s day the weather was challenging!  It rained, hailed and then the sun appeared revealing beautiful blue skies decorated with white fluffy clouds.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this landscape photography  exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lense. For some of the shots, I used the camera hand-held, and for others, I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  Each photography adventure helps me learn more about my camera and lense; and hopefully helps me becoming a better photographer. I also used my Samsung Galaxy S6 mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

MY PICK OF THE DAY PHOTOGRAPH

On this particular day and as we were leaving the Yan Yean Top Lookout Reservoir Park area, I spotted these Black Wattle trees.  “They are among the tallest of the wattles, this fine species has dark-green bipinnate leaves, numerous and are smooth.  The fragrant golden flowers are produced in long heads in spring.  It occurs naturally in New South Wales though it has been extensively planted in other States of Australia.  It is considered to be one of the best of our wattles (Thistle Y. Harris 1980)”.  NB:  I particularly like this photograph because of the angle I was able to achieve.  The Gum Tree trunk in the foreground leads the eye up towards the pretty blue skies whilst the yellow flowering Black Wattle trees in the background steal the show!  And the small puddle of water reflecting the image of the wattle and sky above, just adds that little bit more of interest to the overall shot.

INTRODUCTION

Spending time with my daughter taking photographs of our local Wallan region (Victoria – Australia) is such a joy.  She enjoys taking photographs of birds and other forms of wildlife, while I enjoy taking photographs of the landscape.  On this particular winter’s day the weather was kind!  The sun shone, and a gentle cool breeze brushed across our bare faces. We explored the region finding small visual treasures to photograph; below here you will find a selection of the best I took on the day.

MAGICAL PHOTOGRAPH

On this particular day – on our way home from our latest photography adventure, my daughter spotted a tree laden with Crested Pigeons.  It was late afternoon on a very cool winter’s day, and the sun was on the left hand side of us.  The lighting was perfect, soft and mystical as it sweep across the open fields; with the clouds gently laying down shadows, thus adding more interest to the scene.  It truly looked like a painting, just so beautiful.  As we got out of the car to take our photographs, the Crested Pigeons took flight.  I was able to capture this shot (featured below) where their bodies were bathed in sunlight which helped highlight their escape!  For me, this is a magical photo, and one that will remind me of my time with my daughter doing what we both love to do…
