“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
A day with our daughter and granddaughter was such a treat after 8 weeks of restricted photography adventures. We decided to revisit the Seymour region of Victoria – Australian where we could fish and take photographs of this beautiful part of the Goulburn River. I was able to capture these two photographs of this picturesque river scene. It was a lovely autumn day, mild and the temperature kind for this time of the year. We had a picnic lunch together, fished, feed some local ducks and enjoyed our time together.
CAMERA SETTINGS – for the above photograph
- Exposure 1/60 sec at f/13
- Focal Length 35mm
- ISO 100
- Camera Make Sony
- Model ILCE-7M2
- Lens FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3OSS
The above Goulburn River view featuring the two ducks skimming across the nearly still waters made for a beautiful river image. The sunlight shone strongly upon the river gums and bushes along the river banks, which created mirror reflections of themselves in the blue waters. The foreground while in the shadows did help to create a deeper blue colour contrast. The ducks’ wake across the waters added some definition as well.

The above photograph features in the foreground, overhanging river gum trees. The sun played an important part in being able to highlight them, helping to cast shadows upon the river and also along the grassy riverbank. Their trunks became a window for me the show off the tree-lined banks in the distance thus helping to showcase this beautiful scenic Goulburn River in the background.
CONCLUSION
Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative. Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits is a real privilege for sure. It really does rejuvenate the body and soul.
