INTRODUCTION

The King Valley is a very scenic region of Victoria – Australia with this part featuring expansive cattle grazing fields.  Australian bush covered mountain ranges in the background aid as, a constant reminder, that in previous times, these lands would have been covered in dense bush.  Being mid-summer now, the day was as expected, hot and dry.  Scattered across the landscape, stood, a number of magnificent old gum trees.  During the hottest part of the day, their shade offers refuge to nearby cattle. These old masters of the land, also offer important places, for the local bird wildlife to congregate.  The calls of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos can be heard from afar, which demand the attention of anyone in hearing range. While this is a beautiful countryside, I couldn’t help feeling a little sad. Before generations of settlers came, and cut down all the native trees to make way for cattle farming, the area would have been densely covered in native Australia bush, as the mountains behind in these photographs reveal.  I only hope that my children’s children, will have the same opportunities I have had, in being able to see these lands before their existence gives way, to our ever demanding needs…

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this landscape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
