How We Review UK Casinos
Methodology Overview
Every casino review on iDoArt Reviews is built from the same scoring rubric — seven weighted ranking factors totalling 100 points. A reviewer opens a real account at the operator, completes identity verification, deposits, plays across game categories, requests a withdrawal, and tests customer support before any score is recorded. A second reviewer signs off before publication. Reviews are re-tested on a fixed cadence and immediately following any regulatory action or ownership change.
The Seven Ranking Factors
1. Licensing & Regulation — 25%
The largest single weight. We check that the operator holds a current UK remote operating licence by looking it up on the public register, confirm the trading name and registered company match the site, and review the regulatory history for fines, sanctions, or suspensions within the last 24 months. The presence of a regulator-approved ADR provider and clear T&Cs scores up; missing or stale data scores down.
2. Payment Methods & Withdrawal Speed — 20%
We test deposit and withdrawal flows on real accounts, measuring time from withdrawal request to funds in account (post-KYC). Range of UK-friendly payment methods, transparency of processing times, KYC turnaround, and the presence or absence of withdrawal-reversal defaults all feed into the score.
3. Game Selection — 15%
Total title count, breadth of regulated studios, slot/table/live-dealer mix, RTP transparency, low-stakes table availability at evening hours, and presence of any exclusive titles. Slots-only libraries with no live-dealer support score below well-balanced ones.
4. Bonus & Promotion Value — 15%
We model the real expected value of the welcome offer using the published wagering multiplier, game weighting, and RTP of eligible games, and check whether significant terms are surfaced prominently or buried. Ongoing promotions and the loyalty programme are scored separately.
5. Customer Support — 10%
Two pre-deposit and two post-deposit contacts via every channel offered (live chat, email, phone). Scored on response time, accuracy, agent confidence, and handling of complaints. 24/7 cover with named agents scores higher than business-hours-only with chatbot-first triage.
6. Reputation & Player Trust — 10%
Aggregate of independent review-site scores (Trustpilot, AskGamblers, Casino.Guru), public complaint records, ADR resolution patterns, and our own observation of forum sentiment over the prior six months. We’re looking for patterns, not one-off complaints.
7. Mobile Experience — 5%
Mobile-browser usability on iOS Safari and Android Chrome, native app quality where available, mobile-specific bonuses and payment options, and whether responsible-gambling tools are equally accessible on mobile.
Scoring System
Each criterion is scored 0–10 against a published rubric, weighted by the percentages above, and summed to a single 0–10 site score. Scores at or above 9.0 are reserved for operators with no material weakness on any criterion. Scores below 6.5 mean we’d recommend looking elsewhere; we still publish the review for completeness.
| Band | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 9.0–10.0 | Excellent across the board; no material weaknesses. |
| 8.0–8.9 | Strong overall, one or two minor weaknesses. |
| 7.0–7.9 | Good, with caveats worth reading the full review for. |
| 6.5–6.9 | Adequate; better options exist for most players. |
| Below 6.5 | Not recommended — specific concerns flagged in the review. |
Re-Test Cadence
Every published review is re-tested at least every six months. Re-tests include a fresh deposit-and-withdrawal cycle, a fresh round of support contacts, and a check of the operator’s licence status on the Gambling Commission public register. The “last updated” date at the top of each review reflects the most recent re-test.
Reviews are also re-tested out-of-band following any of the following triggers:
- Public regulatory action by the UK (fine, suspension, licence variation).
- Change of operator ownership or holding company.
- A major shift in significant bonus terms or payment policy.
- Material change in independent review-site sentiment.
Blacklist Criteria
We blacklist operators — remove them from the site and add them to a public list — for any of the following:
- Loss of Licence, or transition to operating without one.
- Documented pattern of refusing or indefinitely delaying legitimate withdrawals.
- Evidence of unfair T&C application against UK players (retroactive bonus voiding, manufactured KYC objections).
- regulator action above £1m in penalty within the last 24 months without remediation.
- Failure to operate GAMSTOP integration in line with licence conditions.
Independence Statement
iDoArt Reviews earns commission from many of the casinos we cover, on a referral basis. No commercial arrangement — existing or prospective — influences ranking position, individual scores, or whether a review goes live. Reviewers are not told which operators are commercial partners until after their scoring is complete and signed off. Operators have no editorial input into reviews and are not provided with previews before publication. We will remove an operator from the site rather than soften a review at their request.
If you believe a specific review fails this standard, please contact us with the URL and a summary of the concern.
