INTRODUCTION

Capturing a sunrise can be an interesting photography adventure! I managed to photograph this beautiful sunrise from a ridge located near McDonalds Track, Lang Lang, Victoria – Australia.  My hubby and I, were at the time, getting concerned that we were going to miss it, and searched the region desperately to find a location where access and position was just right. We finally found this spot just as the sun was rising. Hubby surveyed the area ahead and found a suitable place to set up the tripod, all that was needed was me with my camera. But it required me and hubby to climb a steep embankment. I know, you are all saying right now, don’t do it, it’s not worth the risk, but all thoughts of our personal safety were gone from our minds as we pursued our thoughts of capturing the glorious morning sun. So – as I was climbing the steep embankment and as my hubby was helping me, he lost his footing and fell from the near top directly backwards, landing like a turtle with head, arms, legs in the air and then rolled down the rest of the embankment. Upon reaching the bottom, he just bounced back up declaring that he was OK! We then spent moments capturing this beautiful sunrise while hubby’s back proceeded to swell. By the time we got back to the car hubby declared that he thought he needed to go home and on our way stop off at the Hospital Emergency Department.  I took a look at his lower back that by then, had ballooned to a large melon – off to emergency we went where hubby was in great pain by then, as the swelling cramped his lower back function. After spending so hours there and after a series of scans, hubby was cleared of any back damage other than severe back muscle trauma. As the days moved on, his back began to feature what was a very impressive, and very large bruised lower back which is still persisting and will take weeks to subside for sure. Upon developing these photographs in Adobe Lightroom Classic CC some days later and after showing hubby the results, my darling dear husband declared “well it was all worth it then”. I laughed and said “no it wasn’t worth him being hurt”. The lesson learned, was that we need to be more careful, remember that we are no longer young! And this has also been reinforced by our daughter – who was horrified when she sighted her dad’s back bruising. Photography adventure for sure – but not to be repeated…safety first!

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this landscape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!

CONCLUSION

Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world really does rejuvenate the body and soul.  Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!

  1. What glorious photos. And a happy ending for your husband too, although I’m sorry things went the way they did! It is hard to contain enthusiasm and also hard to remember that we are not as young as we once were, and then these things happen. Adventures of life!

    • Thank you so much for taking a look at my photos … and my hubby is recovering very well thankfully. We both will take more care next time for sure! It’s a reminder, I feel, to all photographers about remembering to take care when out-and-about enjoying our time with nature…sincerely Karen
