“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
On this particular photography adventure day, the skies became engulfed in grey sultry clouds, with the sun making spasmodic appearances! The panoramic views from the coastline at the seaside town of Kilcunda, Victoria – Australia looked out over the Bass Coast Ocean. Here surging surf rolled over near deserted sandy beaches. I managed to also capture some photographs of the Kilcunda Trestle Bridge. This iconic heritage-listed structure was constructed in 1911. It stretches 91 metres across the Bourne Creek and is 12 metres high, making it a must see when visiting this region of Victoria. While I was worried that the weather conditions wouldn’t allow for some good photography, I was happy with these taken on the day. The photograph below featuring an expansive view of the Bass Coast Ocean coastline – is my favourite. In the far distance, thunderous clouds loom, yet in the foreground, the sun shines brightly over the whites of relentless incoming surf. On the sandy golden beach, two people stand peering out across the ocean. It almost looks like a painting to me…
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this seascape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
