“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
Early one morning, hubby and I decided to take a drive to Spavin Drive Lake in Sunbury, Victoria – Australia. A location that is not too far from home and an easy drive for us as well. Here we spent a couple of hours photographing local bird wildlife while enjoying the early morning sunshine. Spavin Drive Lake was originally made to provide water to the historic Rupertswood Mansion. Now it’s a diverse habitat for varying water birds and a popular fishing spot for local residents. I was able to photograph Greylag Geese, Pacific Black Ducks, Australian White Ibis, Crested Pigeons, Common Indian Miners, Eurasian Coots, Orange-bellied Parrots, and Yellow Throated Miners while feeding their babies. It was a pleasant morning’s photography adventure and at its end, we only had a short drive back home – good for us oldies!
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens, and a Sigma150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM with a Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. For some of these photographs I used the camera hand-held but for most of the shots, I used a Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with quick release base. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them, I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
CONCLUSION
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits – really does rejuvenate the body and soul. Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!

I marvel at the variety of birds and your ability to capture them in photos. Lakes and water draw so many creatures into one place, what a lovely location.

Hi Claudia, thank you and there were so many more but difficult to see and photograph. I am finding it takes lots of practice and time! And as you say, we have found anywhere there is water, there will be life of some description…warm regards Karen
