“Photography: Painting and Drawing with Light”
INTRODUCTION
With the Craigieburn Camera Club, hubby and I visited the region of Maldon, Victoria – Australia. I took the opportunity to photograph a number of trains and carriages located within the railway yard of the historic Maldon Railway Station set on the Victorian Goldfields of old! It originally opened on 16th June 1884 and closed to passenger services on 6th January 1941. It is now opened for tourist services over a short 1km section of the line out of Maldon. The weather on this day was unpredictable, one moment we had sunshine and the next we had rain, so a little challenging photography wise which limited our time spent photographing at this location. But we did have a lovely lunch and coffee at one of the local Maldon cafes, and we also did a bit of sightseeing around the region’s best know tourist haunts. Hubby and I had a lovely day, despite the weather conditions – always good to get out-and-about enjoying our photography adventures…
PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED
During this landscape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lens. For all these photographs I used the camera mounted on a tripod. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.
Some of the photographs of the trains and carriages I felt would do better being developed as black and white images. It also gave me a chance to experiment and be more creative. Two of the photographs I left in colour and mainly because they looked better left as taken but also due to the fact they were both taken on my mobile phone and the quality wasn’t there to produce a fine black and white version.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom Classic CC. I developed a small selection of photographs. During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure. Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this photography adventure!
CONCLUSION
Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world really does rejuvenate the body and soul. Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!
