But Australia still was/is a very beautiful country, even without an abundance of natural water.

Acrylic on Canvas
92cms Length x 122cms Wide x 3cms Deep

No sun or moon shape could be seen within the sky – just a dull polluted sky! The TV images of Beijing at the Olympics took me back to my visit and hence this was the inspiration for this painting. The entangled “Birds Nest” for the Olympics over the grey of pollution! Surrounded by a yellow sunniest marketing ploy to portray all is well with the air in Beijing…

Painting No. 26A – Title “Green Peace & Human Nature” Sept/Oct 2008
Acrylic on Canvas
81cms Length x 151cms Wide x 3cms Deep
Painting Story: This two-part painting is about the impact we have on our earth. How the health of our planet is all in our control. How the choices we make on marking its surfaces; and using its resources holds an incredible responsibility. How there are many parts of our planet suffering from our human intervention. And how there are other parts that are sustaining great beauty. My mother said to me once “Life is like a path of snow, be careful how you tread it, for every mark will show”. My painting shows our human marks and the question…are our marks benefiting our earth or making it sick? Hope is expressed in these paintings via the use of bright colours…and in our youth of the future!

Painting No. 30 – Title “Looming Darkness” Oct/Nov 2008
Acrylic on Canvas
122cms Wide x 81cms Long x 3cms Deep
Painting Story: This painting was inspired by a period of time in my husband’s, my life and our two adult children’s lives, where we had just found out he had a lump on his neck. My husband was in the process of having tests to determine if he had Lymphoma ?! It was a very emotional time in our lives. Life in previous months seemed to have been a sunny period in our lives. This news brought a looming shadow of a doubt, as to what we may be facing, in the years to come. All the results of tests came in just before Xmas with the news that yes he did have Lymphoma. To me, this painting showed the warm sunny life being overshadowed with looming darkness, the good white blood cells struggling against the invasion of Lymphoma. At the time, this was all we could focus on but since then my husband has had his chemotherapy and is in remission. So good did triumph over evil…and we hope it will remain that way for him.

CONCLUSION
The process of painting, painting story writing and digital photo painting has offered me a way of expressing thoughts and emotions which can be difficult to say out loud. I also came to understand that art can be a very powerful way of communicating with others. Therapy via art gave me a voice and my art therapy journey has become an important part of recent years and still will be an important part of my life in years to come. I am hoping that sharing my art therapy journey, will inspire others, to take up art therapy to find their voice – in order to be able to move forward in the most difficult of times. Art Therapy has brought me now to a much better place where I find myself being able to seek joy each day. As an ongoing process, I will be blogging about my art therapy journey “moving forward” and expand on how others have used/are using art therapy to assist physical and emotional well-being. I hope you will join me!
