INTRODUCTION

This photography adventure entailed going back to a region we had visited some time ago along the Great Ocean Road, Lorne-Queenscliff Coastal Reserve Region, Victoria – Australia.  We arrived sometime before sunrise at Devil’s Elbow.  It was a beautifully mild summer morning, clear sky, no traffic or people, just us and the seascape.  Once I had finished taking my sunrise shots from this location, we headed towards Lorne itself to Bert Alsop Track which runs closely beside the beachfront that includes large spans of rockpools.

Above Photograph:  The above seascape photograph features lovely views from a roadside stop.  Here I was able to stand on a small ledge with my tripod and camera and took this shot above!

Below Photograph:  The below seascape photograph was on the beach itself.  Lovely stretches of sand and rockpools in the foreground and petty blue sky and ocean made for a perfect summertime photograph of this region.

Below Photographs:  The below seascape photograph of a wide stretch of rock pools, ocean and mountain ranges in the distant helped to showoff the patterning of these rockpools.  The single person walking off along the sandy beachfront also helps to show scale and vastness.  In the distance, a soft mist hung along the coastline creating a beautiful mystical feel to the image.

Below Photographs:  The seascape photograph below was taken just as the sunrise happened at Devil’s Elbow.  It was difficult to position myself and the tripod in a good spot at this location as was situated on the edge of a cliff – did the best I could!

Below Photographs:  The seascape photographs below include one of my hubby looking out over the ocean and another of me positioned on the ledge of the cliffs taking photographs while the sun was rising over the ocean.

CONCLUSION

Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative. Being out-and-about experiencing the wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits is a real privilege for sure. It really does rejuvenate the body and soul.

INTRODUCTION

We are living in a strange time in history.  The coronavirus has, is and will continue to influence how we go about our daily lives for some time to come!  For hubby and me, its only a matter of staying at home until otherwise advised except for medical needs, food requirements and daily walks around our neighbourhood.  We know we are fortunate but at highrisk being over the age of 65 years of age now – so no photography adventures outside our garden and house until further notice from our Australian government.

Our Craigieburn Camera Club has been helping us photographers stay active by giving us a weekly task to achieve.  This week we had to find a photograph from our archives and see if we could make improvements, or find one we may have overlooked and develop.  As I was scrolling through my Lightroom Classic Catalogue I came across the above photograph which I had overlooked back in 2017.  Noticing that it was sharp and had beautiful lighting I decided to process it.  It’s a photograph taken from Teddy’s Outlook at Lorne on the Great Ocen Road, Victoria – Australia.  The lighting allowed for me to be able to create a beautiful composition of this iconic scenic ocean view.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this photography adventure – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens. Also used a Right Angle L Plate Bracket for my camera so that I could turn it to do portraits or landscape photographs more easily which worked a treat.  I use a BH-40 Ballhead for my tripod which helps make taking my photographs not just easier but much more enjoyable. During these photography adventures, I use an Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and to ensure I gain GPS location readings.

CONCLUSION

Being out-and-about experiencing the natural wonders of the world and the creatures it inhabits – really does rejuvenate the body and soul. But over the months to come – these adventures will need to be put on hold.  It will be a time to discover home photography – perhaps Macro!  Photography is just another way to improve one’s sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!

INTRODUCTION

This seaside photography adventure, initiated by Craigieburn Camera Club, Melbourne, Victoria – Australia, brought together enthusiastic photographers, of varying skills, to take part in a three-day photography opportunity around The Great Ocean Road Region.  My hubby and I joined the group at the Seacroft Historic Ocean Front Home – Sugarloaf.  This became our home-base from where, each day, we all ventured out-and-about to explore the surrounding regions in the hope of capturing magical photographs.  It also gave us the opportunity to share photography stories, enjoy each others company, and immerse ourselves into our photography creative efforts without the distractions of daily life back home.

LOCATIONS VISITED AND PHOTOGRAPHED

The Great Ocean Road was a one of the many sources of inspirations for photo-taking alongside of other locations such as: Lorne where Great Cormorants and Sulphur Crested Cockatoos perched on the boughs of riverside gum trees along the Erskine River; the Erskine Waterfalls within the Great Otway National Park; stunning ocean and beach views from Teddy’s Outlook; Mount Defiance rugged coastline and ocean views; Apollo Bay Harbour and beaches; Point Bundury’s golden sand beaches and fresh salty sea-air, sunrise at Marriners Lookout which took in sweeping views from Sugarloaf around to Apollo Bay; Hordern Vale where cattle and sheep quietly grazed on scenic green pastures, majestic shoreline views at Glenaire; Lavers Hill‘s Yatezies where we experienced local bird wildlife at large; stunning ocean and beach views from Moonlight Head; Point Ronald 50 to 60 metre high calcarenite bluffs on the Gellibrand River; the iconic Twelve Apostles; Sugarloaf beach sunrise views; the surprising Californian Red Woods; and the beautiful and peaceful Hopetoun Waterfalls at Beech Forest.

SUNRISE, SUNSET & HARVEST MOON PHOTOGRAPHS

The ‘golden hour’ and also know as the ‘magic hour’ is the period just shortly after sunrise or before sunset where the lighting is just beautiful, soft and where a photographer really can feel like they are painting and drawing with light.  I managed to capture sunrise at Marriners Lookout – Apollo Bay.  The morning was just beautiful and the view from the Lookout breath-taking! It was my most favourite location for the trip.  Also captured a sunrise at Sugarloaf Rock Beach and sunset at Seacroft Historic Ocean Front Home during our first night’s stay.  Also managed to capture a photograph of a Harvest Moon on the same night which was a challenge, but happy with the end result.

PHOTOGRAPHY EQUIPMENT USED

During this seascape photography exercise – I used a compact system camera, a Sony A7 Mark II – Full Frame with a Sony A FE24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Lense. For some of the shots, I used the camera hand-held, and for others, I used the camera mounted on a tripod with a remote timer.  Each photography adventure helps me learn more about my camera and lense; and hopefully helps me becoming a better photographer. I also used my Apple iPhone 8 Plus mobile phone for quick spontaneous photographs and gain GPS location readings.

THE PHOTOGRAPHS

On my return home, I downloaded all the photographs into Adobe Lightroom 6.  I developed a small selection of photographs During the process of developing them I was able to see what I needed to address during my next photographic adventure.   Please find both above and below, the best of what I took during this particular photography adventure.

CONCLUSION

It was a trip that was filled with lots of driving, stopping, walking and taking photographs.  It was definitely very tiring!  But the whole experience with the Craigieburn Camera Club gave us another opportunity to met like-minded people and help improve photography skills.  It gave me and my hubby another chance to see more of nature’s wonders and while we still can! Photography is just another way I choose to improve my sense of wellbeing and at the same time – be creative!  It definitely works for me and once more we finished up our three-day trip, tried, but in high spirits…

Happy photography all!

INTRODUCTION

Spending time with my husband taking photographs along part of The Great Ocean Road around townships of Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Lorne – Victoria, Australia was such a pleasure.  I enjoyed taking photographs of the seascape while my husband enjoyed using his new binoculars to search out the local wildlife.  On this particular winter’s day the weather was perfect!  As we travelled along this scenic iconic road, we discovered stunning beaches and ocean views.  The fresh, softly blowing sea air, filled our ageing lungs; the whole experience rejuvenated our bodies and souls…

MY FAVOURITE PHOTOGRAPHS

Here below are three of my favourite photographs that I took on this particular photography adventure.  Each drawing the eye into the middle scene with interesting landmarks to give the image overall character and interest.

The above photograph was taken at Point Addis looking towards Bells Beach which is halfway between Torquay and Anglesea – Victoria, Australia.  I managed to capture the shimmer of the morning sun across the ocean while still managing to keep all the foreground vegetation features.

The above photograph was taken at Aireys Inlet.  The winding gravel path through green shrubbery lead up to Split Point Lighthouse – Victoria, Australia.  I love the cloud formation and how the lighthouse peers above the shrubbery.  Having a person strolling into the depth of the photograph offers perspective.

The above photograph was taken at Lorne near the mouth of the Erskine River.  Peering through Pine trees I was able to capture a mirror image of the Golden Monterey Cypress trees.

BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS

A couple of the photographs taken on the day were better off as black and white images.  The first being a dog that scampered across the water at Aireys Inlet.  The other a view from a sand dune looking towards Point Grey at Lorne, Victoria – Australia.
